WASP, EZbird and ZK2Excel – End of Life Notification

End of Life Notification: At the end of 2017 we announced that WASP, EZBird and ZK2Excel will be discontinued from our product lineup as of January 2019 and will be replaced with our new HR System called WorkForce which includes Payroll for Malta, Leave Management and Time & Attendance applications.

Below are a series of questions and answers that will help you better understand why support and updates for these products are being discontinued.

Why are you discontinuing these products?

These products are based on older technologies and depend on older versions of Microsoft Office and Windows that are no longer supported by Microsoft. With each new update to Windows, it gets harder and harder to resolve compatibility issues. We also realised that approximately 75% of the support we provide to customers for these products is not directly related to the software itself, but is for compatibility with computers, corrupted databases, interference with anti-virus products and so on.

Why is WorkForce better?

The new WorkForce Suite is way better in many respects. To start with, it is completely cloud-based and therefore all you need is a browser with an internet connection. There is no installation, no backups and no compatibility issues. Just log-in and you’re working. In addition to this, licence management and licence activations are a thing of the past. You can now update your licences online at any time.

What happens from January 2019?

From 1st January 2019, DataByte:

  • Will not provide support to WASP, EZBird or ZK2Excel family of products
  • Will not issue new licences
  • Will not provide new activations for existing installations
  • Will not update the tax bands and IRD settings for WASP for 2019 onwards

What should I do?

Start by contacting our support team.

We recommend that clients using WASP and EZbird should create a new WorkForce account at least 3 months prior to the end of 2018. This will give you time to try out he new software, migrate your data and ask any questions you may have.

Our support team will be on hand to assist you with transferring data from your WASP installation to WorkForce.

Will I be refunded if I move over to WorkForce from WASP or EZbird before my licences expire?

We have a special offer on to make life easier to migrate. Please contact our support team for more details.

Will I still be able to create payslips with WASP after 1st January 2019?

NOT ADVISABLE. Due to the product’s end of life, your payslip calculations will be incorrect due to old tax calculations and no support will be provided in case you run into any issues.

Will EZbird and ZK2Excel keep working after 1st January 2019?

Yes, although NOT ADVISABLE. Should you run into any issues DataByte will not be able to provide support, and if you need to re-install the software DataByte will also not be able to provide licenses.

What happens if I ignore this notice?

EZbird and ZK2Excel will continue working as normal, for now. However as time goes by we are encountering more and more compatibility issues with new versions of Windows and new versions of Office. Since we have moved to our new platform, we will not be further upgrading this software to remain compatible – so your mileage may vary !

What are the benefits of moving to WorkForce?
