Easy File Locker is a free tool for password-protecting files and folders. With it, others can’t open, read, modify, copy, or delete your data without your password. Of course, neither can you, so be sure to take the usual (secure) password precautions. This tool is available in separate downloads for 32-bit and 64-bit Windows, but the installation wizard won’t let you install the wrong version. We tried it in 32-bit Vista and Windows 7 as well as 64-bit Windows 7, with success all around.

What’s Firefox worth to Google? Nearly $1 billion…

Don’t let the StatCounters and the NetApplications of the world fool you: despite stagnant and even slightly negative market share growth, Firefox and its default search box is still extremely valuable to Google.

How valuable? The three-year default search deal that Firefox’s nonprofit parent company, Mozilla, just inked with Google is worth nearly $300 million per year, according to unnamed sources who spoke to AllThingsD.

Windows 8 Developer Preview

Microsoft has been showing off bits and pieces of its next-generation Windows operating system over the last few months, finally releasing a developer preview at its BUILD conference.
